Description:
MacroHealth places technical advisors directly in the ministries of each country in which it provides long-term support. These advisors have advanced training and experience in economics, health systems, and/or management, and are positioned in Ministries of Finance and Health to identify key interventions to remove the bottlenecks to improved health investment. Advisors assist advocates in the respective ministries and work with them to facilitate country-led processes to:

- Develop investment plans to scale up health investments for the poor, using existing mechanisms if possible and creating new ones as needed;
- Strengthen or create mechanisms to allow the government and its partners to better coordinate health projects, so both global and local funds can be used as efficiently and as effectively as possible;
- Initiate research on key topics—the relationship between poverty and health, the cost and coverage of health interventions, or community financing mechanisms for health—to inform health investment;
- Advocate at the highest levels of government for increased spending on health.

MacroHealth advisors ensure country ownership for all activities. Advisors help to build capacity and strengthen leadership within the system, ensuring that plans and processes initiated under MacroHealth become standard government procedures. In the long-term, the project aims to build national capacity and mechanisms for more tightly connecting the Ministry of Finance to Ministry of Health programs, thereby ensuring that funding ultimately provides basic health services for all the nation’s citizens.
